I think it’s a step in the right direction to get this economy back on track. 2010 looks like to be a good rebounding year to me.
The local economy of my area is doing great as a result of some of the “green” initiatives that have come as a result of grants like this.
I hope that this money not only helps Tampa but the other cities as well. I know that here in Arizona we could defiantly use some of that money.
I spent much of my life in the Philippines.
We lived on an island approximately 80 miles from the capital, Manila.
So many times we received notice that our city had been given a grant of so many millions to repave the roads of the island that were filled with potholes.
There were always nice ceremonies when the money arrived, and notices in the newspapers.
But, the strange thing was that no paving was every done.
Neither were jobs ever provided.
However, the politicians of the Philippines, most fairly well off when they were elected became fabulously rich compared to the common man when they left office.
When I look at the American Congress, I see people who are given special arrangements on buying apartment complexes like Mr. Charles Rangle. Others with large stacks of hundred dollar bills in their freezers. And, trust fund children like Ted Kennedy who entered the Senate as a child of privilege and left the Senate fabulously rich.
I am trying to celebrate for this grant to Tampa.
However, I believe I understand where a good portion of that money is going to go. After all, Florida does have overhead expenses.
I do not see a poor man serving in the Senate.

It’s nice to read about money actually going to worthwhile projects and helping people stay in their homes. Much better than all of the other wasteful spending that is going on with tax payer money right now.
We clean roofs in Tampa for many real estate professionals and property managers.
The federal tax breaks are helping the tampa real estate market.
We are getting many calls lately from realtors wanting to get their listings roof cleaned safely.
Tampa Palms seems a very active area for us lately, and a few in Cheval in North Tampa area too.
With the national unemployment rate now under 10-percent and Recovery money coming into places like Tampa it’s only a matter of time until the economy gets back on track. People with jobs and incentives will buy homes.
Hope the money helps Tampa spur the economy and get back on the right track. Nice to know that the govt. is trying to help out!
Here in Ocala the real estate buying market has been on the incline, which is good news for homebuyers, but for those looking to sell it is still rather stagnant and you would most likely be losing money on the sale of your home. Im hoping this changes by end of 2010 and things continue to be on the gradual incline the country as a whole can start to breathe a little easier and provide for our families.
I would imagine that Tampa, or any major city with a thriving college community in it would show a quicker turn for the better from the economic slump that our countries housing market gas been in. With USF in Tampa that leaves new blood and money to pump in and through the City which of course helps everyone involved.
Yeah for Tampa to get some money from HUD. I hope it does really help spur economic growth as you mentioned in the post.
I’ll have to take a look to see who else is on HUD’s list. I’m sure my area isn’t but maybe Milwaukee is which would be nice as I know they are hurting yet too.
Who is paying for these huge grants? The tax payer?
Will the recovery in these cities generate enough taxable income to repay the funds?
Government money is good but only a temp fix. I think our local economy will be better this year because of the bad winter in the NE. More people will come on vacation this year and more companies will have their conferances here. That revenue has a trickle effect. Also I think Real estate will do better because a lot of northerners will say “I don’t want to spend another winter here” and so they will be moving to Tampa and St pete.
This program aims to collaborate to acquire land and property; to demolish or rehabilitate abandoned properties; and/or to offer down-payment and closing cost assistance to low- to middle-income homebuyers. Will create jobs but will it stimulate the main real estate market?
Good news for Tampa. These times is so hard specially the stock market is still recovering and that amount of money would definitely give more jobs to those unemployed.
This has been the worst overall winter in Tampa I can remember since I moved here in 1971.
My girlfriend just moved here from Michigan, and was suprised how cold it has been in Tampa.
I guess it has been a really bad winter not just for Tampa, but the whole USA ?
Jadeslair commented the NE Winter was bad too.
Any little bit helps. And unfortunatley, with a city the size of Tampa, the $38million will only go so far. None-the-less, a definate step in the right direction!
This is really good news for Tampa. I hope it does a good job in boosting their economy! We all need it these days.
Beth had a good comment on Government Money going to Tampa.
Her experience in the Phillipines echo mine.
Give the money back to the People in the form of Tax Cuts, instead of admistering government programs that funnel taxpayer dollars to those special interests that supported the candidates that got elected.
I think if 1/4 of the government money we have wasted was given back to our People as Tax Cuts, they would have spent us out of the slump we are in, and our grandkids would not be trillions of dolllars in debt ?
I see America going down the slippery slope of socialism, and that scares me.
NYC needs to see some of this money as well
It’s exciting that Tampa is receiving this money. I also agree that many places need this money right now and not a year or two from now.
I’m hopeful that when a city such as Tampa received this type of grant, not only will it benefit Tampa, but it will benefit surrounding towns and cities as well. It would be great if the money had a ripple effect of sorts. If the Tampa economy improves, if jobs are created, it can only be beneficial to the surrounding areas because more visitors might start coming, people might start moving to surrounding towns and cities, and so on.
More people will come on vacation this year and more companies will have their conferences here. That revenue has a trickle effect. Also I think Real estate will do better.
That’s great news, this money definitely will help it’s economy. I’m glad, government thinks about that.
Hopefully this stimulus will not only give Tampa a shot in the arm, but will also create badly needed jobs that will eventually help lift the area out this recession.
Even in a city the size of Tampa i think that the money could really help to spur economic development and create jobs, as long as it is used in the right way and in the right places. There needs to be a catalyst area for development and sustainable growth.
Tampa is a great city but it needs this stimulus to help property prices recover. Hopefully this will help prices stabalise this year before prices start going up again in 2011.
I really hope Tampa gets this because so many small and even large businesses here in Tampa are having a hard time. We get businesses calling us all the time asking how we can help their business online to get them more leads or jobs for their businesses. This is great for us, but it just isn’t about us this is about getting Tampa back on track where we need to be. Come on Tampa show your support to all businesses that are having a hard time and leave this post a comment how how you feel about this news.
U.S department of housing and urban development has a mission to increase home-ownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination. They are fulfilling the immediate support that some states of US needs drastically. It is worth watching HUD website to know the type of vast operation they are in to.For homelessness do they have Short Stay Serviced Apartments facility available?
Its great that Tampa and 60 other cities are receiving this recovery grant, i think it will really help stimulate economic growth in the area. Its about time the government gives back after all the taxes citizens pay out.
The Tampa money has been great for our business. We clean roofs in Tampa, realtors we depend on to send us homes to clean for resale. Our realtors here in Tampa have us busy lately. If our reators are busy, we are busy, simple as that.
